How to move one’s signalbox in eight photographs: Having first removed the lever frame, the box foundation was dug out and the RSJ structure supporting it bolstered using scrap rail. It was then gently jacked up a bit at a time from each corner so that it sat on blocks a few inches higher than the running rails. More scrap rail was then placed under the box so as to be perpendicular across to the running rails, enabling the whole structure to be jacked across over the track. This was done with the help of grease and jacks on each of the perpendicular rails, locating holes for the jacks being torched into these as the slide progressed. The rail bolstering under the box had been arranged such that it extended from the sides allowing specially constructed axle boxes to be attached. A set of wheels was then rolled in at each side of the box to be fitted to these axle boxes. The wheels had been temporarily dropped from a wagon. Once these were attached the whole structure became its own "wagon" enabling the loco to hook up and tow it from Dunster down to Minehead. The weather was heavy rain for most of the operation, everyone getting completely soaked. Once at Minehead the reverse operation was performed to plant the box in its new location.
